Foreign Language
Level I
Purpose:
Students will be introduced to a foreign language through basic grammar, vocabulary, and cultural activities.
Student Learner Goals:
1. Students will speak using standard pronunciation with
special focus on the vowels, intonation, and pitch when
conversing on a variety of subjects studied in the course.
2. Students will communicate ideas using writing well enough
for a native reader to comprehend.
3. Students will understand a speaker who uses standard
pronunciation, intonation, and pitch when conversing on a variety of topics studied in the course.
4. Students will read to determine the main ideas or facts in
authentic, appropriate printed material in the target language.
5. Students will demonstrate that communication in the target
language obeys grammatical rules.
6. Students will examine differences, similarities, components, and
values of the other cultures.
Foreign Language
Level III
Purpose:
Students will expand basic grammar, vocabulary, and cultural activities to prepare them for a global society.
Student Learner Goals:
1. Students will speak using standard pronunciation, intonation,
and pitch when conversing on a variety of subjects including interpretation of English into the target language.
2. Students will communicate ideas in the target language using
expanded writing practices well enough for a native reader to
comprehend.
3. Students will demonstrate an understanding of a native speaker
who uses standard pronunciation, intonation, and pitch when
conversing on a variety of subjects.
4. Students will demonstrate a deeper understanding of the main ideas or facts in authentic, appropriate printed material in the target language.
5. Students will demonstrate that successful communication in the
target language requires the application of certain grammatical
rules and strategies in a complex sentence structure.
6. Students will interpret cultural differences in some social situations and world events.
